World Hunger Day 2024

Spur-6557
Spur Steak Ranches have rallied behind Spur Corporation’s purpose of Leading for the Greater Good by focusing our efforts on early childhood development, more specifically nutrition. Through our Spur Full Tummy Fund initiative, we support NGO partners, ForAfrika, The Lunchbox Fund and Rise Against Hunger in feeding children at under-resourced day care centres across South Africa. We currently fund more than 410 000 meals annually and look to increase this to more than 500 000 meals in July 2024.

The meals provided by these organisations are often the only meals these children will receive. Good nutrition is the foundation of a child’s survival, health, and development. Well-nourished children can grow and learn to participate and contribute to their communities.
This World Hunger Day we again hosted three meal packing events across South Africa in partnership with Rise Against Hunger. Our Spur Full Tummy Fund pledged the first 75 000 meals and with the generous support from our staff, Spur franchisees and suppliers we were able to collectively pack and donate 217 278 meals which will feed 945 children every school day for a year.
“Massive inequalities persist in South Africa, and this is evidenced in measurable child outcomes at age 4 to 5 years. Before they even enter their first school classroom, most poor children in South Africa face significant barriers to success. This is likely to impact their progression through school, and their long-term economic prospects, reinforcing inter-generational cycles of poverty and exclusion.” – Thrive By Five Index
I’s not just a meal…
It’s hope, it’s nurturing, it’s resilience, it’s education, it’s joy, it’s empowerment…
It’s our responsibility!
