The newly introduced Evergreen Excellence Award recognises a restaurant that has demonstrated long-term consistency and leadership in sustainability over several years. This year’s award was presented to Birchwood Spur for its continued commitment to environmental stewardship and meaningful operational change.
Eco Legends Award: RocoMamas Vanderbijlpark
The new Eco Legends Award celebrates a restaurant that has made a lasting impact through community-driven sustainability initiatives and eco-conscious innovation. RocoMamas Vanderbijlpark received this recognition for its ongoing commitment to environmental awareness, waste reduction and local upliftment initiatives.
GREEN FEATHER REWARD WINNERS FOR 2025
1st PLACE: Eagle Mountain Spur (Thabazimbi, Limpopo) – Winner of R50,000
A heartfelt congratulations to Jacques and Isabel Blaauw, and the team at Eagle Mountain Spur, who earned 1st place for their continued commitment to sustainable operations and community impact. Runners-up in last year’s Green Feather Rewards, Eagle Mountain has continued to strengthen its sustainability journey through solar investment, upgraded water and greywater systems, and energy-efficient infrastructure that reduce environmental impact while supporting business continuity. With near-zero waste to landfill and ongoing support for local recycling and feeding initiatives, the restaurant continues to lead by example.
2nd PLACE: Little Rock Spur (Piketberg, Western Cape) – Winner of R20,000
Congratulations to Nicolene Claasen, Willem le Roux and the team at Little Rock Spur for securing 2nd place. Joint third-place winners in last year’s awards, Little Rock continues to grow its sustainability journey alongside the Piketberg community. Solar power and borehole water systems deliver meaningful savings, supported by recycling and food upcycling initiatives. Plans to add a vegetable patch to the community play area further reflect the team’s ongoing commitment to future-focused sustainability.
3rd PLACE: Silverado Spur (Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng) – Winners of R10,000 Each
Congratulations to Driekie Heymans, Peet Ebersohn and the team at Silverado Spur for earning 3rd place. Silverado Spur continues to strengthen its sustainability journey through practical resource management and community upliftment. Water-saving measures, LED lighting and energy-conscious practices, supported by a borehole system, have reduced operational impact. Alongside food parcels, school partnerships and local clean-ups, the team demonstrates how consistent eco awareness and community care can grow together.
