Spur Corporation Green Feathers Rewards Finalists

Green Feather Rewards
The winner of the prestigious Green Feather Reward will be announced on 21 April 2023 at our award ceremony at Intaka Island in Cape Town! Our 3 Finalists and their teams have showcased their commitment to leading for the greater good. The entries reflected excellent progress in serving people, planet, and prosperity for all.

  • Birchwood Spur, BoksburgAchieved 84% in the 2022 GO Report

    Birchwood Spur showcased their eco journey over the past few years. They have been working hard on future proofing their business by investing in green technology, staff training and strong community involvement through their recycling and agriculture projects. Highlights include, installing solar power; reducing water usage through effective staff engagement and partnering with MAN RECYCLING to drive circularity and community improvement.
  • RocoMamas TableView, Cape TownAchieved 92% in the 2022 GO Report

    The team at Tableview have been on their eco journey since the restaurant opened in 2018. RocoMamas Tableview is the first “green build” restaurant in the group, and they have continued their work in driving sustainability as a key strategic pillar. Their entry showcased continued research and development and investment in eco products. They strive to keep their team trained and informed on developments in a variety of eco initiatives. Highlights include rainwater harvesting and greywater management; variable speed extraction control; Bio DNA eco cleaning solutions used for floors and surfaces; and ongoing staff and supplier engagement. “The enthusiasm and interest suppliers showed in helping us was remarkable. They commented that there are very few people in the restaurant business interested in doing what we are doing.” – Restaurant Management
  • RocoMamas VanderbijlScored 80% in the 2022 GO Report

    The leadership at RocoMamas Vanderbijl have developed a phased eco plan for the next 5 years to better the restaurant and ensure buy-in from the team. They have seen great success through training and incentives for staff to align with their eco initiatives. Waste management and food security are prevalent themes in their entry. They are involved in various community project for the betterment of their local environment and are participating in a can recycling program to support local communities in need. They have also partnered with an Agri project supporting growing and buying of vegetables.
    Highlights include: The “Rita Benecke Agri Project”; their own garden for herbs and lemons on the property; the replacement of all their lights with LED’s; introducing a switch-on-switch-off schedule; and implementation of light sensors in infrequently used spaces.
